Trenton’s Rorebeck named “Most Outstanding Wrestler” at Brookfield Tournament`

The Trenton High School wrestling team had three medalists in the Brookfield Tournament on Saturday.  There were 16 teams.  No team scores were kept.

Trenton’s Drew Rorebeck won the 160 pound weight class with a 5-0 record.  Rorebeck, in post-tournament voting by the participating team coaches, was named “Most Outstanding Wrestler”.  Among Rorebeck’s victories was a 2-1 semifinal win over Holden’s Andrew Martin, who came in ranked #1 in the state at 160 pounds (MissouriWrestling.com).  Rorebeck, ranked 4th in that poll, won the tournament title with a 5-4 triumph over Kenton Delana of Richmond.

Trenton’s other medalists were Jadan Whitney and 182 pounds and Mason Owen at 220.  Both finished third.

Owen was 4-1 on the day, with his only loss coming to #1 ranked Sam Hasekamp of Centralia by semifinal pin.  Owen is ranked #5, according to MissouriWrestling.com.

Jadan Whitney finished 3-1 at 182 pounds.

Coach Bacon added that THS “seems to be moving in the right direction, with the Grand River Conference and district tournaments fast approaching”.

Lathrop won its own wrestling tournament by 41 1/2 points over runner-up Maysville on Saturday.  Carrollton was third followed by Mid-Buchanan, Stanberry, South Harrison, Polo, Albany, Tarkio, Sherwood, and Tina-Avalon.  The Mules accumulated 227 1/2 points to the Wolverines 186.  Third place Carrollton had 177 1/2.

Smithville won the Midland Empire Conference wrestling tournament with 384 points.  Cameron was runner-up at 305 1/2.  Savannah was third, Chillicothe fourth, Benton fifth, Maryville sixth, and Lafayette seventh.
