UMKC beats in-state foe Southeast Missouri State 86-75

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) LaVell Boyd hit 12 straight free throws, scored 24 points and had a career-high seven assists as UMKC beat Southeast Missouri State 86-75 on Monday night.

Boyd, who also set a career-best for made free throws, has scored 20-plus in four straight games and has at least 18 points in his last six.

Broderick Robinson added 15 points for UMKC (5-2) and Kyle Steward had 13. Robinson made all three of his 3-pointers and the Kangaroos tied a season-high with 12 made 3s on just 19 attempts. It was UMKC’s third straight game with double-digit 3-pointers.

UMKC made more free throws (24) than the Redhawks attempted (23) and the Kangaroos had a season-high 18 assists on 25 made field goals.

Denzel Mahoney led Southeast Missouri State (3-3) with 20 points. Antonius Cleveland added 16 points and Trey Kellum had 14 points and eight rebounds.
