Warriors’ Green considers free agency, team wants veteran forward back

NBA

It appears that Draymond Green, a key player for the Golden State Warriors, is considering declining his player option for the final year of his contract and becoming an unrestricted free agent. The team’s new general manager, Mike Dunleavy Jr., expressed a strong desire to keep Green, emphasizing his importance to the organization and the team’s pursuit of championships. Head coach Steve Kerr has also praised Green for his passionate and emotional style of play.

While Green has had some controversial moments throughout his career, including suspensions and on-court incidents, both Dunleavy and team owner Joe Lacob acknowledge his significant contributions to the Warriors’ success. They believe that the positives outweigh the negatives and hope to have him back as a core player alongside Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, with whom Green has won four championships.

Dunleavy, who recently replaced Bob Myers as the general manager, is optimistic about keeping the roster intact, including younger players like Jordan Poole. He recognizes the elite level at which Curry, Green, and Thompson are still performing and believes that there is a way to maintain a competitive team while retaining those players.

Ultimately, the decision rests with Draymond Green, and he has until June 30 to notify the Warriors of his choice regarding his player option.
