The Kansas City Chiefs recently concluded their offseason training program and are now on a break before the start of training camp in late July. The program began with virtual meetings in April and progressed to on-field practices, including Organized Team Activities (OTAs) and mandatory minicamp.

Head Coach Andy Reid expressed satisfaction with the team’s progress during the OTAs and minicamp, stating that they have laid a solid foundation to build upon during training camp. While a few players dealt with injuries during minicamp, Reid expects most of them to be ready for training camp. The injured players mentioned include tight end Blake Bell, safety Mike Edwards, cornerback Trent McDuffie, tailback Isiah Pacheco, offensive guard Trey Smith, cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, and defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton.  Reid mentioned specifically the strong offseason work of second-year wide receiver Skyy Moore, expected to take a much more significant role with the offense in 2023:

During the minicamp practices, several players stood out with notable performances. Wide receiver Richie James had a strong day with multiple catches, including an impressive adjustment on a ball thrown behind him. Tight end Jody Fortson made difficult receptions, including a leaping grab and a catch over the middle. Cornerback Jaylen Watson recorded a pass breakup in the end zone, while wide receivers Skyy Moore and John Ross made deep catches. Safety Justin Reid had a pass breakup to prevent a touchdown, and tight end Noah Gray made a remarkable catch down the sideline. Wide receivers Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Kadarius Toney also had impressive touchdown catches.

With OTA’s in the ‘rear-view mirror’, coach Reid admitted to the importance of recharging his batteries in a rare time of quiet on the NFL calendar:

After Wednesday’s practice, several players spoke with the media to provide updates on their progress. Wide receiver Skyy Moore, who had a strong offseason, discussed his goals for the upcoming season, aiming to take the next step and showcase his natural ability. Moore emphasized working on the details of his game, particularly improving his rapport with quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Now, the Chiefs and their players have some time off to rest and recharge before the start of training camp, where they will continue to prepare for the upcoming season.
