WFT down to three names to replace Redskins

Numerous reports from in and around the nation’s capital are indicating that the NFL’s Washington Football Team has three finalists as the name of the franchise starting in 2022, replacing Redskins, which was officially dropped due to racial issues in the spring of 2020.

With Redskins thrown away in the wake of national reckoning in the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd, the Washington franchise chose “Football Team” to represent the squad for 2020, keeping the nickname for this year.  The franchise’s burgundy and gold color scheme was kept during the transition period and will be kept when the new name is chosen.

In a video from the Washington Football Team’s website and YouTube channels, team president Jason Wright was seen speaking to coach Ron Rivera and general manager Martin Mayhew about the nickname issue to “Making the Brand”.  Although the names were bleeped out of the video, Wright said, “So the three that will go through are”
