The University of North Alabama, a Division 1 school in Florence, Alabama, has hired Candi Whitaker as its new head women’s basketball coach. Whitaker leaves the Griffons program after a highly-successful six year run at the MIAA school in St. Joseph.
With Missouri Western, Whitaker had a combined record of 100-47 with two NCAA Tournament appearances, an Elite 8 appearance, and the 2023-2024 MIAA championship.
The move continues a pipeline between Missouri Western and North Alabama, where UNA’s current athletic director is Dr. Josh Looney, who served at MWSU in the same position from 2017 to 2021.
