University of Missouri redshirt freshman Marquise Doherty has officially left the Tiger football program.  Week-long rumors of the decision were confirmed on Tuesday by coach Barry Odom.

Doherty, a graduate of Winnetonka High School in the Kansas City area, was a 15th round selection by the Royals in the 2015 first-year player draft, but at that time, decided to try a two-sport career at Mizzou.  Less than one year, he has changed his mind, with Odom saying that Doherty is going to enroll in junior college to try baseball full-time.

In 12 games with the Mizzou baseball program this spring, Doherty hit .214 with 4 RBI’s and a double.  He started seven games.  As a redshirt last fall, Doherty did not play on the field in Gary Pinkel’s final season as MU football coach.  Due to his baseball demands, Marquise was not part of spring drills with the football team in March and April.
