Winston boys, Trenton girls hold steady, while Milan boys drop, all at #2 in the state, in latest MBCA poll

High School Basketball

The number two is the most popular number for area teams in the latest Missouri Basketball Coaches Association high school basketball poll, with Milan, Trenton, Winston, and St. Joseph Benton among the teams in northwest Missouri ranked in that runner-up position in their respective class.

In comparison to the previous week’s polls, Winston and Trenton held steady in their positions, while Milan’s boys fell behind 20-2 Mansfield in the Class 2 rankings, while the Benton Lady Cardinals rose to the #2 position in Class 4.

Other teams of note in the latest rankings are the Mercer boys at #8 in Class 1, Jefferson at 6, and Meadville ranked 9th.  The East Buchanan boys, at 17-1, are ranked just behind Milan at #3 in the Class 2 poll.  Maryville is 7th in Class 3 boys.

The Stanberry Lady Bulldogs, three-time champion of the Grand River Conference’s Western Division, are ranked #4 in Class 1, with Norborne 8th, and Brashear and Green City among the teams receiving votes outside of the Top 10.

In Class 2 girls, both Mid-Buchanan and Penney are in the receiving votes category.

In Class 3 girls, Trenton trails only the three-time defending state champions from Strafford.  In Class 4, Benton trails #1 ranked Incarnate Word Academy in the poll.  Kearney is ranked 5th.
