Worth County stays on early season roll with quarterfinal wins at Albany Tournament

The Worth County girls and boys basketball teams are safely in the semifinals of the Albany Invitational Tournament, following convincing Monday night victories.

With both teams improving to 2-0 (after wins at Princeton last Tuesday), the Lady Tigers beat the South Harrison Lady Bulldogs, 59-30, jumping out early to leads to 17-6 after one quarter, and 33-15 at the half.  The #1 seeded Worth County boys shut down Albany, winning 64-21.  Drake Kinsella and Cade Allee both had 19 points to lead the Tigers.

The Pattonsburg boys beat South Harrison by the final score of 64-45, as Butler had 16 points, Curtis 12, and Jones 10 for the Panthers.  Treyton Campbell led the Bulldog charges with 15 points.

The Stanberry Lady Bulldogs looked very strong, outscoring Pattonsburg 25-0 in the opening quarter, and putting the game in cruise control from there, winning 75-5.  Lily Osborn had 18 points and Madi Sager 14 for SHS.

The Princeton boys and girls open play in the Albany Tournament this (Tuesday) afternoon on Hot Country Z 101.7, with the Tiger boys battling Stanberry at 4:45, followed by the Lady Tigers dueling with King City at 6:15.  Tom Johnson will have the play-by-play call from Albany High School.

Later games tonight will find the Jefferson Eagles in action, with the boys playing King City at 7:45, followed by the girls opposite Albany at 9:15.

The consolation semifinals are scheduled for Wednesday night, with championship semifinals on Thursday night from AHS.
