Bulldog netters have winning streak snapped in setback to Maryville

The Maryville Spoofhounds won four of six singles matches on Monday afternoon at the Carpenter-Bosley Courts at Trenton High School, improving to 8-1 on the season with a hotly contested 5-4 victory over the Trenton Bulldogs, ending Trenton’s winning streak at six matches.  The Bulldogs record is now 6-2.  

The singles matches with Maryville’s top talents proved difficult for Trenton, with the ‘Hounds winning all four contests in the #1 through #4 levels, by a combined score of 32-14, as Kristian Mendez beat Trent Villacampa in the #1 match 8-1, Kason Teale over Bradyn Sager at #2 8-4, George Groumoutis downing Maverick Sole 8-3 at #3 singles, with Jaxson Staples winning the #4 doubles match over Tucker Otto 8-6.

Trenton picked up singles victories from freshman Isaac Dixon, 8-1 over William Sheil at #6 singles, and junior Victor Markell over Landon Baker at #5 singles, 8-6.

In doubles, Trenton’s #1 team of Villacampa and Sager beat Teale and Staples 9-7, with Sole and Otto winning the #2 match, 8-5 over Mendez and Sheil.  A #3 doubles victory proved critical for Maryville, with Groumoutis and Baker doubling up Trenton’s tandem of Markell and Dixon 8-4.

Four JV matches were played, with the Spoofhounds winning all four.  In singles, Colby Bowles beat Garrison Otto 6-3, AJ Dinsdale shutout Seth Doolittle 6-love, Ryker Argo took down Jake Horton 6-4, with the doubles team of Bowles and Dinsdale rolling to a 6-1 win over Otto and Horton.
