The Trenton Lady Bulldogs made a spirited run at Chillicothe in Friday afternoon’s team district final match, but the Lady Hornets were able to emerge with a 5-2 victory, advancing into the Missouri Class 1 state sectionals.
Chillicothe’s advantage over Trenton came in singles, with Hunter Keithley downing Lexi Gott in the #1 singles match by a 6-3, 6-3 final, with Macy Cavanah downing Kendall Crowley at #2 singles, 6-4, 6-0, and Hannah Zimmerman, while given a strong challenge, grabbing a win over Gwyneth Foster at #3 singles, 7-6 (8-6 tiebreak), 6-4.
Trenton did manage one singles victory, as Morgan Dolan, at #5, beat Megan Sisson 6-2, 7-5. In the #4 singles match, Trenton’s Mallory Sole was tied with Chillicothe’s Delaney May 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, while at #6 singles, Trenton’s Alaina Overton was battling, down one set, to a 6-6 tie in the second set against Leah Lourence, when Chillicothe reached the five win level to end the competition.
In doubles play, Chillicothe’s Keithley and Zimmerman beat Trenton’s Gott and Crowley 8-1, with the Hornets duo of Cavanah and May beating Foster and Sole 6-3, while Trenton’s #3 team of Dolan and Overton defeated Sisson and Lourence 8-6.
