COVID-19 pandemic claims Holiday Hoops as latest victim

High School Basketball Local Sports

The 2020 edition of High School Holiday Hoops at North Central Missouri College has been canceled, after a meeting of the Hoops Steering Committee on Tuesday night.  The committee made the decision based upon the surging number of cases in Grundy and surrounding counties, combined with the case load where high schools exist that are in the event, sending the potential of virus spread through student-athletes and visiting fans into the local area.

Fifty-five high schools from Missouri and Iowa represented by over 100 teams were scheduled to be in Trenton for the 16th annual event on the NCMC campus.

While apologizing for the cancelation, the Steering Committee now turns their attention to making the 2021 event the best ever.

With Holiday Hoops officially canceled, area basketball programs are making decisions to replace lost games.  At Princeton High School, athletic director Scott Ussery has announced the Tiger girls and boys will host LaPlata on Tuesday, December 22nd and travel to Green City on Tuesday, December 29th, with doubleheader action starting at 6 o’clock both evenings.

Trenton High School is working on adding games to replace the lost contests from Holiday Hoops, but had no official announcement as of mid-week.
