Defensive score serves as momentum for Trenton JV victory over Lexington

Jose Velazquez returned a Lexington fumble 59 yards for a touchdown on Monday night, giving the Trenton junior varsity football team its first lead of the night.  It was a lead that the Bulldogs never gave back, in a 20-12 victory over the Minutemen at C.F. Russell Stadium, evening Trenton’s record at 1-1.

Lexington opened the scoring with 5 minutes to go in the first half on a 15 yard run by Brogan Gore.  The two-point conversion failed, leaving the ‘Dogs down six.  Trenton tied the score on a 13 yard run by Carson Radcliff with 2:09 remaining in the half.  With the score tied at 6, the Velazquez return occurred 58 seconds later, giving THS a 12-6 halftime lead.

After battling through a scoreless third quarter, the Bulldogs earned breathing room in the fourth, as Hunter Dugan went into the end zone from three yards out, with the Radcliff two point run making the score 20-6.  Lexington cut the lead to 8 (20-12) with 2:57 to go on a 5 yard scoring run by Kobi Bartley, but the Bulldogs recovered the ensuing onside kick, and ran out the clock.

The Bulldogs JV wil host Putnam County on Labor Day Night (Monday, September 5th) at 6 o’clock at C.F. Russell Stadium.
