The KCI Volleyball Tournament, hosted at Lawson on Saturday, August 26, brought together eight teams ready to battle for victory, starting bright and early with pool-play action beginning at 8 o’clock.
In the Pool A action held at the high school gym, Lawson dominated the court, defeating Penney with scores of 25-13 and 25-11. Lathrop and Mid-Buchanan faced off in a closely contested match, with Lathrop securing victories at 25-22 and 25-23. Lawson continued its strong performance, triumphing over Mid-Buchanan 25-14 and 25-17. Lathrop demonstrated their prowess by defeating Penney 25-11 and 25-5. The battle of giants between Lawson and Lathrop ensued, with Lawson ultimately prevailing at 25-21 and 25-17. Mid-Buchanan secured wins over Penney with scores of 25-15 and 25-17.
Meanwhile, at the Barker Center, Pool B showcased equally fierce competition. East Buchanan showcased their dominance by defeating North Platte with scores of 25-8 and 25-12. West Platte faced a tough challenge against Plattsburg, securing victories at 25-22 and 25-18. East Buchanan continued their winning streak by triumphing over Plattsburg 25-17 and 25-15. West Platte battled against North Platte and managed to secure victories at 25-18 and 25-21. East Buchanan faced a formidable opponent in West Platte, clinching victories at 25-15 and 25-23. Plattsburg secured wins over North Platte with scores of 25-13 and 25-9.
As the competition heated up, teams moved into bracket play. The Consolation Bracket at the Barker Center saw Mid-Buchanan overpower North Platte with victories at 25-5 and 25-17. Plattsburg displayed their strength by defeating Penney with scores of 25-18 and 25-16. In the 7th Place Game, North Platte managed to secure a win over Penney in a thrilling three-game match.
The battle for the 5th Place Game witnessed Mid-Buchanan’s triumph over Plattsburg with scores of 25-17 and 25-23, showcasing their determination.
The Championship Bracket, held at the high school gym, was a highlight of the day. Lawson faced West Platte and secured their dominance with victories at 25-18 and 25-20. East Buchanan engaged in an intense match against Lathrop, with Lathrop taking the first set at 25-19, but East Buchanan stormed back with victories at 25-18 and 25-14 to clinch the win.
In the 3rd Place Game, West Platte and Lathrop engaged in an epic showdown. West Platte secured the first set at 25-18, but Lathrop fought back, winning the second set at 25-22. The final set witnessed West Platte’s triumph at 25-20, clinching the 3rd place spot.
The climactic 1st Place Game brought together East Buchanan and Lawson in a breathtaking match. Lawson took the first set at 25-21, but East Buchanan showed their mettle with a decisive victory at 25-9 in the second set. The third set was a nail-biter, but East Buchanan managed to secure their victory with a final score of 25-20, emerging as the tournament champions.
