Gallatin softball goes 1-3 at Saturday’s Cameron Tournament

High School Softball

A late August rain postponement of the Cameron Softball Tournament gave the Gallatin Lady Bulldogs a chance to enter the field, with GHS playing four games this past Saturday, going 1-3 against strong competition from throughout northwest Missouri.

Gallatin took a 5-1 loss at the hands of Richmond, as an early 1-0 lead disappeared with the power of two runs in the second and three in the third for the Lady Spartans.  Aubrey Feiden and Courtney Smith each had a pair of wins for the Lady Bulldogs.  Sophomore Karley Salmon took the loss for Gallatin.  She was relieved in the third inning by Sami Boyd.

Gallatin won a back-and-forth affair against the JV squad from St. Joseph Central, taking a 6-5 win.  The Lady Bulldogs scored twice in the first inning, and extended the lead to 6-1 after four runs in the fourth inning.  Two runs in the fifth and two in the sixth by Central made Gallatin sweat the final out before securing the victory.  Boyd picked up the win for GHS, while Feiden went 3 for 3 and Salmon 2 for 3 at the plate.  Feiden added two RBI’s.

DeKalb got the best of Gallatin in a pitchers duel, 2-1, with Crouse outdealing Salmon for the Tiger victory.  Gallatin had only three hits in loss, one was a double by Haylee Michael, while the other was a triple for Boyd, who picked up a fifth inning RBI.

Gallatin lost a heartbreaker against St. Joseph Lafayette, with the Irish scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to rip victory away from the Lady Bulldogs, 4-3.  Bianca Vice got the pitching win for Lafayette, with Karley Salmon taking the defeat for Gallatin.  GHS, on the strength of two third inning runs and a tally in the fourth, was in position for the win.  Maelea Coulson had a double with Ariel Harris adding a triple for the Lady Bulldogs.  Boyd, Coulson, and Harris had RBI’s.  Baylee Hoffman had a triple and three RBI’s for Lafayette.
