Grundy R-V Panthers split opening round games at Novinger Tourney

The Grundy R-V boys took a hard-earned victory, but the Lady Panthers came up short, in quarterfinal round action on Tuesday night at the Novinger  Basketball Tournament.

The Panther boys, behind 20 points from Cooper Lewis and 15 from Ryan Metcalf, beat Madison High School in a “clock-runner” 57-24, evening Grundy’s season record at 1-1.  The win sends the Panthers into a semifinal on Thursday afternoon at 5:50 against the top-seeded Novinger Wildcats.

Other boys quarterfinal results from Novinger were, on Monday night, Atlanta upsetting the #2 seeded Green City Gophers 61-54, while the Kirksville JV took a 63-47 win over Brashear, with a 6 seed knocking off the 3.

The Lady Panthers of Grundy R-V, on Tuesday night, were defeated by the #5 seed Atlanta Lady Hornets, 55-46.  Madison Peavler led Atlanta with 17 points, while Bri Carpio had 16 and Aubrey Gann 15 points for R-V.

Also on Tuesday night, in girls action, the Brashear Lady Tigers rolled past the Kirksville JV 52-30, while the Novinger Wildcats swing the upset over the #3 seed Madison 45-43.
