KU basketball will host “Late Night in the Phog” on October 6

The University of Kansas basketball programs will host the 39th Annual Late Night in the Phog on Friday, October 6, at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kansas.

Late Night began in 1985 and has become one of the most well-attended “midnight madness” events in college basketball. The event features music by the KU pep band, performances by KU’s spirit squad and dance teams, engaging activities by both the men’s and women’s basketball teams, video highlights, introductions of coaches and players, scrimmages, and more.

The inaugural Late Night in 1985 had around 6,000 fans in attendance, mostly students, as it started as an afterthought. Over the years, Late Night has grown in popularity, with more than 16,000 fans packing into Allen Fieldhouse each year.

Since 1988-89, the women’s basketball team has also been a part of Late Night, sharing the spotlight with the men’s team. The event is no longer held at midnight, as the NCAA changed the scrimmage time to earlier in the evening to accommodate fans of all ages.
