Lady Bulldogs grab 2nd set, but fall in 3rd road match

The Trenton Lady Bulldogs, for the first time this season, were able to take a set, but in the program’s third straight road trip to open the 2021 campaign, Trenton lost in four sets at Plattsburg, 25-19, 22-25, 25-13, and 25-20 on Tuesday night.

Ava Simpson paced Trenton with 12 assists, with Lilly Berti adding six kills and six aces, with Juliet Schmadeke striking six aces, and Zoie McGowan leading the team with nine digs.

Coach Brad Ewald acknowledged improvement from the Lady Bulldogs level of play, saying his team “attacked the ball 90 times, but now must improve on our aggressiveness, having only 19 successful kills on those 90 attacks”.

The Trenton JV had a strong night at Plattsburg, beating the host Lady Tigers in two sets.

The Chillicothe Lady Hornets, after opening the season on Thursday night with a straight sets win over Trenton, hit the road to Brookfield on Tuesday night, dominating the Lady ‘Dogs by scores of 25-7, 25-19, and 25-10.  Chillicothe continues to be strong from the service line, with Anna Fisher, Jessica Reeter, and Kayanna Cranmer combining for 18 aces.

In high school tennis action from Tuesday night, Bishop LeBlond won on the Carpenter-Bosley Courts at Trenton High School by a score of 8-1.  Trenton’s only victory came at #2 singles, with Mallory Sole downing Emily Weddle 8-6.
