Lady Bulldogs outlast Marceline, improve to 3-2 prior to rivalry game

High School Basketball

The Trenton Lady Bulldogs effectively rebounded from Saturday’s loss to Braymer in the championship game of the Gallatin Tournament, answering a series of Marceline second-half surges on Tuesday night to beat the Lady Tigers 55-51 in overtime.

In action broadcast on Hot Country Z 101.7, Maci Moore battled foul trouble throughout the game to lead all scorers with 25 points, while senior small forward Lexi Whitaker added 15 points, 14 of those coming after the halftime break.  Teya Cooksey had eight points for THS, including a pair of mid-game three-point shots.

Marceline, falling to 2-2 after losing the championship game of the Glasgow Tournament to Cairo on Saturday night, had 16 points from Ramzee Bruner, 14 from Baylee Jobson, and 10 points from Kenzie Stahl.

Trenton Head Coach Kameron Cool:

The early season battles of the Trenton boys to build varsity experience hit turbulence on Tuesday night, with Marceline, powered by 20 first quarter points from Luke Abeln, cruising out to a double-digit lead and dousing the host Bulldogs, 70-31.  Abeln finished with a game-high 33 points for Marceline, while Trenton, now 1-4 on the season, had 12 points (on four made 3-pointers) from Brycin Loyd and 10 points from Chase Otto.

The Trenton girls and boys, on Friday night, host the Chillicothe Hornets in a varsity doubleheader on Hot Country Z 101.7, with Marceline heading home for the Tigers home openers, also Friday night, against the Green City Gophers.
