Lady Wolverines continue GRC domination, with rainouts in Trenton, Milan, and Unionville

High School Softball Local Sports

An untimely heavy rain shower quickly ended hopes of Trenton and Princeton playing in Grand River Conference softball action on Tuesday night, with both teams ready to battle on a windy and chilly early evening before the 5 o’clock system hit Grundy County, quickly dousing the field and postponing the game.  A make-up date has not been announced.

One of the major factors in holding off on announcing a postponement was the use of a tarp that protected Mark Griffin Field during the overnight thunderstorms, and the relative ease of travel for the Lady Tigers, just a 25 mile drive south to play.  The same advantages did not exist for GRC East foes Polo and Gallatin, with field conditions and concern of a rainy forecasts causing postponements for the Lady Panthers trip to Milan to play the Lady Wildcats, and Gallatin’s trek to Putnam County to play a Midget team on a two-game winning streak.

With 75% of the eastern side of the conference rained out, Maysville and South Harrison were able to play, and the veteran Lady Wolverines continue to be the hammer to the rest of the division’s nail, with MHS ripping the Lady Bulldogs 15-2, handing South Harrison its second straight defeat.  Maysville is now 3-0 in conference play, 48 hours ahead of a Thursday night trip to Polo.

In the GRC’s Western Division, King City’s home test against Braymer was postponed one night, with a make-up date of tonight (Wednesday, September 9th).  In a high-scoring, close-fought thriller, North Andrew outlasted a snake-bit Albany squad, 18-17.  Pattonsburg and Gilman City played for the second time in a week, with the Lady Panthers splitting the home-and-home, winning on the Hawks home turf, 14-9, dropping GC’s record to 2-1.  Stanberry hammered the Worth County Lady Tigers, 20-5.

The Linn County Lady Mustangs got their softball game in at Bevier, winning 9-4.  LaPlata’s Lady Bulldogs won on the Atlanta home turf, 9-4.  Green City’s short trip to Novinger for a softball/baseball doubleheader was postponed to Thursday, September 17th.  Mercer made the lengthy HDC road trip to Winston and were able to grab a 14-8 win over the Lady Redbirds.

The Macon Tigerettes defeated Brookfield in Clarence Cannon Conference action, 19-9 in nine innings.  Monroe City downed Clark County 4-2, with Highland taking a 9-4 win at Centralia, Kirksville blasting Mexico 13-1, and Marceline shutting out South Shelby 13-0.
