Linn County beats top-seeded Meadville for Northwestern boy’s title

The Linn County boys continued their unbeaten run to start the season, with a Northwestern Invitational Tournament championship.  On Saturday night, the #2 seeds from Purdin knocked off the top-seeded Meadville Eagles, 57-53.  

With a November 20th victory over Grundy County backed up by three wins in Mendon, the Mustangs are 4-0, with two home games this week, as Brashear visits Linn County on Tuesday night, while Atlanta travels to Purdin on Friday night.  The Saturday night loss is the first of the season for Meadville, now 2-1 to open the season.  The Eagles get another shot at Linn County on Tuesday, December 12th, when the Mustang teams travel to Meadville for a Tri-County Conference doubleheader.

For the second year in a row, the Higbee girls are the champions of the Northwestern Tournament, knocking off Hale on Saturday night, 59-52.  

The Meadville girls won third place on Friday night, beating the host Northwestern Lady Eagles, 74-63, while the Brunswick boys won third place over Northwestern, 75-69 on Saturday.

In Friday night’s consolation finals, the Linn County girls went overtime to defeat Bucklin/Macon County, 60-53, with the Keytesville boys defeating Hale, 49-45.
