Missouri men’s basketball coach Dennis Gates wasted no time in the transfer portal cycle, securing the commitment of UT Martin transfer Jacob Crews early on. After nearly a month, Gates made another significant addition to the team with the announcement of Iowa fifth-year transfer guard Tony Perkins joining the Tigers.

Perkins, a standout guard, brings a wealth of experience and talent to the Tigers. Standing at 6-foot-4, he earned second-team All-Big Ten honors in the past season, averaging 14.0 points, 4.6 assists, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game. His offensive prowess was evident, scoring in double figures 26 times and showcasing his ability to drive to the paint effectively.

Choosing Missouri over several other notable programs, including Indiana and Arkansas, Perkins’ decision adds depth and skill to the Tigers’ guard position, especially with the departure of Nick Honor and Sean East II. Known for his gradual improvement throughout his collegiate career, Perkins’ presence is expected to make a significant impact on both ends of the floor.

With Crews and Perkins now on board, the Tigers have filled two roster spots, with potential additions still in consideration. Northern Kentucky transfer guard Marques Warrick, a first-team All-Horizon League selection, recently visited Mizzou, further highlighting the team’s efforts to strengthen its lineup.

Meanwhile, Mizzou guard John Tonje entered the transfer portal for the second consecutive season. Despite a foot injury limiting his playing time last season, Tonje is seeking another year of eligibility through a medical hardship waiver. Additionally, graduate guard Caleb Grill has also applied for a similar waiver, with optimism from Coach Gates about its approval.

In other transfer news, former Mizzou guard Curt Lewis announced his commitment to East Tennessee State. Lewis, who showed promise at John A. Logan Community College, aims to make a fresh start with two years of eligibility remaining.
