Moore shatters THS scoring record in triple overtime win

Trenton High School junior forward Maci Moore scored a school record 41 points on Saturday afternoon, leading the Lady Bulldogs to a thrilling 64-55 victory over Notre Dame de Sion in the third place game of the Hamilton Basketball Tournament.  The 41 point outing broke the previous school record of 36 set by Lora Gooch.  In the boys third place game, Gallatin outscored rival Hamilton 74-66.

The East Buchanan girls and Lathrop boys won the championship hardware at Hamilton, with the Mule boys beating the Bulldogs 58-50, while the East Buchanan girls downed the host Penney Lady Hornets 51-37.

On Friday night, in action broadcast on Hot Country Z 101.7, the South Harrison boys beat Trenton 55-38 to take the consolation trophy.  Lucas Karns had 17 points and Collin Haffey 14 for South Harrison (9-7) while Trenton (3-13) had 12 points from Royce Jackson, with Preston Harris contributing 10.  The game was tied at 25 at the half, but Trenton’s inability to stop Karns in a 10 point third quarter proved critical, as SHHS pulled away for the win, holding THS to just 13 points after the break.

On Thursday night, in a semifinal game broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3, East Buchanan moved to 12-3 with a 56-37 win over Trenton.  Lilly Schilling led the Gower side with 18 points with freshman forward Gracie Kelsey adding 12.  Maci Moore had 20 points for Trenton (9-7).

The Trenton boys, on Wednesday night, defeated Braymer in a consolation semifinal, 45-40, with Jaren Whitney scoring a game-high 17 points and Chase Otto 11 for the Bulldogs.  The Bobcats were paced by Dylan Haughton with nine points.

The Princeton girls and boys took Saturday’s championship games from the Gilman City Tournament, with the Lady Tigers downing Tri-County 56-43, with the PHS boys holding off a stern challenge from North Harrison, winning 50-46.  Pattonsburg’s boys took third place, 80-57 over Osborn.

The Meadville girls and boys won the championship games of their own tournament on Saturday night, with the Lady Eagles winning a thriller over Grundy R-V 70-67, while the Eagle boys beat the Hale Cardinals, 46-35.

The Milan girls and boys traveled to Moberly on Saturday for a non-conference doubleheader with Monroe City.  In the boys game, the Panthers gave the Wildcats just their second loss of the season, 61-41.  However, the opener saw the Lady ‘Cats stay red hot, finishing a superlative week with a 64-44 victory, as Cady Pauley had 35 points for Milan.
