NCMC Lady Pirates up one spot in national poll, ahead of Top 15 showdown at Northark

Women's Basketball

The North Central Missouri College Lady Pirates, with 40 points, are up one spot in this week’s National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division Two poll, with the now 16-4 squad from Trenton at #13.  The 13th position matches the highest of the season for North Central, who dropped to #14 last week after a defeat at the hands of #5 ranked St. Louis on January 13th.  Since that defeat, North Central has ripped off four wins in a row.

The team immediately in front of the Lady Pirates are the Lady Pioneers from North Arkansas College.  The two teams will meet on Saturday at noon on the Northark campus in Harrison, Arkansas.

Monroe Community College (New York) is the top ranked team in the country, with a 15-1 record and 100 points, remaining in the top position for another week.  Ranked second is Kirkwood Community College (Iowa), while the Highland Community College Scotties, from a school 30 minutes west of St. Joseph on Highway 36, are 20-0 and ranked #3 nationally.

Out of Overland Park, Kansas, the Johnson County Cavaliers are 16-4 and ranked 4th, followed by St. Louis, the squad in the lead for the potential #1 seed for the four-team Region 16 postseason tournament in Jefferson City.  North Central will have a rematch with the Archers, on the St. Louis Forest Park campus, on Saturday, February 3rd.

The sixth through tenth positions in the poll are controlled by Pima (Arizona), Labette (Kansas), Illinois Central, Owens (Ohio), and North Iowa Area (NIACC / Mason City, IA).

Kansas City Kansas Community College, a squad that split its games with North Central Missouri College in the fall semester, is the top team in the country in the “receiving votes” category.
