Post-Willhite era begins at Pattonsburg with Panthers looking to reload, not rebuild

The high-octane machine known as the Pattonsburg Panthers offense took its fair share of hits from graduation in 2019, notably in record-shattering quarterback Steven Willhite, but with a strong group of student-athletes returning, Coach Scott Cavin is attempting to find the right mix to achieve continued success in 2020.

Last season, the Panthers won the GRC’s Western Division title outright and advanced to the state semifinals, before falling just short of the state title game with a loss at Southwest Livingston.  This fall, the biggest question surrounding the Panthers is whom will get the quarterback position opening night:

Although the GRC Western Division took a loss this offseason with the football departure of Braymer High School, the remaining group in the 8-man division, anchored by the likes of Worth County, Stanberry, and North Andrew, make the conference as good as any in the state:

Pattonsburg opens the season this Friday night with a home date against Bishop LeBlond.  A lengthy road trip to a new eight-man school, Schuyler County, follows for Week #2.

For this Friday night’s home opener against LeBlond, the Pattonsburg Booster Club has announced a fundraiser for the Lady Panther softball team.  A pre-game meal of a tenderloin, french fries, and water will be available for $8.00.  With social distancing guidelines in place, nobody needs to leave the safety of their cars while receiving the meal.  The servings take place at the Pattonsburg City Park.  Proceeds will go toward new softball jerseys for Pattonsburg High School.  There will be limited concessions at the game due to concerns over COVID-19 spread.
