Savages trip Bulldogs in tennis action

The Savannah Lady Savages welcomed Trenton’s tennis team into town on Thursday, with, in a team duel more competitive than the final score may indicate, Savannah winning 7-2.

Trenton coach Tammy Ockenfels indicated that many of the Savannah wins saw deep matches go to ‘deuce’ games that her girls quite couldn’t get over the hump in, including a Harley Hall 8-3 loss to Hallie Briner, a pair of 8-2 setbacks for Morgan Dolan (against Olivia Claycomb) and Emilee Lovell (opposite Megan Weaver).  One of the top young players in northwest Missouri, Savannah freshman Iris Alvarez, was challenged by Lexi Gott of the Lady Bulldogs in the #1 singles match, with Alvarez surviving, 8-4.  Trenton’s lone singles win was an 8-6 victory for Alaina Overton, at #4 singles, against Krynna Rudel.  In the #3 singles dual, Savannah’s Maddee Olszowka downed Mallory Sole 8-1.

In doubles, Trenton’s #2 team of Sole and Overton was very solid, doubling up Claycomb and Rudel 8-4.  In #1 doubles, the Savages entry of Alvarez and Olszowka beat Gott and Dolan, 8-1, while Weaver and Briner of Savannah won #3 doubles, 8-1 over Lovell and Hall.

Trenton had a solid night on the JV level, winning two of three doubles duels.  Lydia Leininger and Jessika Kennedy defeated Abrianna Huffman and Avery Barr 6-3, with Chloie Hall and Faith Lee grabbing a 6-3 win over Alyssa Blaker and Skylar Violett.  In the #3 doubles match, Savannah’s Peyton Tannehill combined with Blaker for a 6-3 win over Trenton’s entry of Lindsey Babcock and Jessika Kennedy.
