The Trenton Lady Bulldogs defeated the Chillicothe Lady Hornets on Tuesday afternoon, taking a season-defining victory by a score of 6-3 at the Carpenter-Bosley Courts at THS.
Coach Tammy Ockenfels praised her team, saying, “The girls played strong all the way through their match, battling out every point! They are getting stronger every match!”
Trenton won four to six singles matches and two of three doubles matches, to clinch the victory. The night, as expected, was highly competitive, with three 8-5 victories in singles play for THS, as Mallory Sole downed Cami Carpenter at #1 singles, with Astrid Soriano defeating Rylee Washburn at #2, and Lydia Leininger over Audrey Snider at #4 singles. At #3 singles, Alaina Overton of Trenton rolled to an 8-2 win over Olivia Anderson.
Chillicothe singles wins came in the #5 match, with Isabella Garr beating Harley Hall, 8-1, and Bryton BeVelle downing Jessika Kennedy 8-2 at #6 singles.
In doubles competition, Trenton’s #2 team of Soriano and Leininger won the most hotly-contested match of the night, beating Washburn and Garr 9-7. Sole and Overton, at #1 doubles, beat Carpenter and BeVelle 8-4. Chillicothe took a win in the #3 doubles match, with Anderson and Snider downing Hall and Kennedy 8-2.
The schools played three junior varsity doubles matches against one another, with Trenton taking two wins to Chillicothe’s one. Jillian Voorhies and Faith Lee (THS) won over Mallory Grable and Emma Crowe 6-4, with Matty Shultz and Kaytee Wright of Trenton beating Taylor Epperson and Julietta Keller of Chillicothe 7-5. The Hornets duo of Emma Crowe and Micah Crowe beat Trenton’s Savannah Elrod and Faith Lee, 6-1.
On Thursday, Trenton defeated the visiting Kirksville Tigers, as Coach Ockenfels continued to state that the Bulldogs are “hitting their stride”, with Jillian Voorhies winning her first ever varsity match for THS.
