The Trenton Lady Bulldogs golf team will feature two juniors on the area links this fall, as coach Travis Mullenix will continue working with juniors Mari Atup and Josie Chumbley, both returning for their third year of varsity action. Unfortunately for THS, having just two this season is less than the four needed to accumulate a team score for area events.
In an interview to preview the upcoming season, starting Tuesday afternoon at Riverside Country Club against Brookfield, Mullenix was asked if not having in-person classes last spring, taking away his ability to do some early recruiting for the team, led to the decrease in numbers:
Both Atup and Chumbley look poised and capable to see jumps in their level of play in 2020:
While low numbers have hit the golf program, no such dip was seen in the volleyball, softball, and tennis squads. An eighth-grade group that has multiple girls showing ability and interest have Mullenix thinking that the participation rates will increase soon:
