Trenton grapplers finish runner-up at districts, advance five to state

The Trenton High School wrestlers finished second in Class 1, District 3 tournament that wrapped up on Saturday night at Marceline High School.  THS qualified five members for the Class 1 state tournament in Columbia.

Hunter McAtee, Gavin Chambers, and Mark Trump all were second while Coleman Griffin and Caleb Johnson were third in their weight classes.  All of them advance to the state competition.

Marceline qualified six wrestlers for the Class 1 state tournament, Brookfield advanced two, and Carrollton one.  Among the state qualifiers, Cullen Bruner of Marceline and Jaden Obongo of Brookfield were district champions.

Centralia ran away with the team title at the District 3 tournament with 217 1/2 points.  Trenton was second at 131, and Palmyra third at 126.  Marceline was fourth, Brookfield tied for tenth, and Carrollton was 15th.

Gallatin was fourth, Maysville fifth, and South Harrison sixth in Class 1, District 4 tournament at Mid-Buchanan High School (Faucett, MO) on Saturday.  Mid-Buchanan won the team district championship.

Gallatin qualified seven wrestlers for the state tournament, Maysville advanced four, with South Harrison, Albany, and Hamilton two each, and Polo one.

Gallatin qualifiers include district champions Ross Critten, Keegan Allen, and Drayton Harris.  Finishing second for the Bulldogs was Andon Allen.  Rodell Sperry was third.  Draven Wright and Gage Wright were fourth.

Among other state qualifiers, Mason Hamilton of South Harrison, Wyatt Segar of Polo, Cole Gripka of Maysville, and Justin Dye of Albany all won District 4 individual championships at Faucett.

Odessa was first, Cameron second, and Chillicothe 5th at Class 2, District 4 tournament at Excelsior Springs High School.  

Chillicothe qualified four wrestlers for the Class 2 state meet.  Dawson Wheeler and Isaac Washburn placed second, Sheldon Rader third, and Christian Peniston fourth at districts.

Cameron advanced 13 to state including district champions Caleb Husch and Brecken Gates.

The boys and girls state wrestling tournament are this Thursday through Saturday at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.  There are four classes for boys and one class for girls.  The girls’ state qualifiers were determined at state-wide held district tournaments on February 7th and 8th.
