The Trenton High School volleyball team lost back-to-back matches against stiff competition earlier this week, falling to Bishop Leblond on Tuesday night, 25-8, 25-5, 25-1 and to Lexington on Monday night 25-21, 25-14, 25-11.  The defeats drop Trenton’s varsity record to 7-11 on the season.

On Monday night against the Minutewomen, Evy McCullough led Trenton’s offense with 11 kills, contributing three blocks and one ace.  Olivia Roberts had three kills and two digs, with Ava Simpson 12 assists and an ace, Makenzee Epperson three kills, Lilly Berti with five kills, two digs, two aces, and two blocks, and Jessa Shipley with one kill and one ace.

The JV split with Lexington, falling in the first set 25-22, while winning the second try 25-20.  For the Lady Bulldogs, Nautica Dowling had seven kills, Ally Yoder seven kills, Katie Markell three digs, Abby Simpson six assists and three aces, Juliet Schmadeke three kills, Zoie McGowan two digs, and Kaylea Boyle four assists and two aces.

In comments from the Monday night, coach Pam Bowden said the JV “played well together and had fun!  They were rewarded with the win in the second set.  A great all-around effort!”.  The varsity, according to Bowden, “had glimmers of good play together, but couldn’t put together enough momentum to get a win.”

At Grace Gymnasium in St. Joseph on Tuesday night, McCullough had four kills and two blocks for THS, with Kenzie Yuille three digs, Ava Simpson seven assists and two digs, and Katie Markell two digs.

The Trenton JV lost at LeBlond 25-11, 25-19, with Markell picking up three digs, Yoder six kills, Skylar Gott three kills, and Abby Simpson seven assists.

The “C” team match at LeBlond went to the Golden Eagles 25-9, 25-1.  McKenzy Dolan had a kill and two digs, with Kate Clark adding two digs for the Bulldogs.

Coach Bowden admitted her team “had a difficult time” in St. Joseph.  While “knowing they have some tough opponents”, Bowden added that her team “while preparing for district play, will need to rise to the level of competition.”

Trenton will be a #2 seed in district play, taking on #3 seed South Harrison in a semifinal at Carrollton High School on Tuesday, October 27th.  The championship match is Thursday, October 29th.  Carrollton is the #1 seed.  Trenton split with Carrollton in a pair of matches at the Carrollton Tournament, and won its matches against South Harrison this season.
