Trenton works overtime to get season’s first win, 9-8 at Albany

The Trenton Lady Bulldogs rallied from an early 3-0 deficit, getting a two-run homer by Maci Moore to ignite the offense in the 3rd inning, and scoring seven runs over the final four innings in a 9-8, eight inning victory at Albany.

Moore’s homer in the third inning cut Albany’s lead to 3-2, as the Lady Warriors had racked up three runs over the first two frames.  

Down 6-5 going to the top of the 7th, Trenton grabbed a 7-6 lead with a two-spot, only to see Albany tie it with a run in the bottom half.  The Lady Bulldogs scored twice in the top of the 8th inning, with Albany held to one run, ending the game.

Trenton’s offense had 12 hits, with two each for Chandler Lynch,  Maci Moore, Gracyn Rongey, and Teya Cooksey.  Madi Moore had two hits as well.  Shay Westerhof had two RBI’s and two runs scored.

Jenna Reeter started for Trenton, but only went 1/3 of an inning, giving up two runs and a hit.  Freshman Emma Roberts got the win in relief for THS, with 7 2/3 innings of work, allowing ten hits, and six runs, although only two were earned as the Bulldogs committed four errors in the game.

Trenton, now 1-1 on the season, travels to Maysville for a 5:30 game on Thursday evening.  Albany drops to 0-2 on the campaign.  The Wednesday night contest had been moved from Monday due to wet field conditions at the Albany softball diamond. 

The Gallatin Lady Bulldogs picked up a 8-0 win at Milan in GRC action on Wednesday night.  The Lady Bulldogs opened up the game with a six-run top of the 3rd inning.  Addie Riley was 2 for 3 with two RBI’s for GHS.  While Gallatin was held to five hits by Milan starter Cady Pauley, the base paths remained active with seven walks allowed, with Milan’s defense committing two errors.

Caragan Baker got the win for Gallatin, pitching four shutout innings in the start, striking out six and allowing only three hits.  Pauley struck out 10 for Milan, as the Lady ‘Cats fall to 0-2 on the season, 0-1 in the GRC.  Gallatin, rebounding nicely from a season-opening 9-2 loss to Worth County, improves to 1-1 on the season, and 1-0 in the GRC.

On Thursday night, Polo will be at Gallatin, with Novinger at Milan.

The Polo Lady Panthers took a hard-earned 3-2 win over Stewartsville/Osborn on Wednesday night.  Haley Barnett, Mallory Clevenger, Chloe Gilbert, and Jade Misel all had base hits for the Polo offense.  Robinson got the win from the circle, striking out 13 in a three-hit complete game effort.  Polo won the JV contest that followed, 10-2.

The East Buchanan Lady Bulldogs scored three times in both the 1st and 2nd innings at Chillicothe on Wednesday night, winning at Danner Park over the Lady Hornets, 7-2.  Erin McPike got the win for East Buchanan, pitching a complete-game eight hitter, striking out five, while adding a home run and double in a 2-for-4, two run, 3 RBI night.  The homer was a 3-run shot in the visitors 2nd.

A base on balls scored a single run for Chillicothe in the 3rd inning.  Brooke Horton blasted a home run for the Lady Hornets in the 4th inning.  Sophia Luetticke was 3 for 4 out of the leadoff spot for CHS.

Cameron improved to 2-1 on the season with a 14-8 win over Lafayette County (Higginsville) on Wednesday night.
