Individual girls tennis action in Class 1, Section 8 took place on Saturday afternoon at the Noyes Tennis Complex in St. Joseph, with senior Lexi Gott of Trenton High School earning a spot in the state tournament bracket, courtesy of a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Reese Robertson of Bishop LeBlond.
Joining Gott in advancing out of the section was a fellow district champion, as Bishop LeBlond’s Emily Weddle defeated Chillicothe’s Delaney May in straight sets, 6-love, 6-4. In the pairings, Gott, the District 8 champion, matched up with Robertson, the District 7 runner-up, while May, having fallen to Gott in the District 8 title match, met the District 7 champion in Weddle.
In Saturday’s doubles competition, Maryville’s Arianne Skidmore and Lauren Cullin cruised to a 6-love, 6-1 win over Gracie Riemenschneider and Maren Elmore of Kirksville to advance to state. LeBlond’s team of Libby Weddle and Peyton Netten moved on to the Class 1 doubles tournament, with a 6-love, 6-3 win over Chillicothe’s Cami Carpenter and Leah Lourenco.
