Trenton’s Whitaker, Princeton’s Lewis, earn 1st team all-state softball honors

High School Softball

Trenton High School senior catcher Lexi Whitaker and Princeton High School senior center fielder Lacie Lewis have been named first-team all-state softball selections in recent balloting.  Whitaker hit nine home runs with 40 RBI’s in a dominating season for THS in 2019, including a .476 batting average.  Lewis was one of the spark plugs in the top of the order for a Princeton team that emerged out of the Grand River Conference to a district championship in 2019.  In addition to her speed and hitting ability, Lewis was a superb fielder for the Lady Tigers, highlighted by a catch and throw to the plate for a double-play in the Lady Tigers sectional game loss to Platte Valley in mid-October.

Whitaker’s selection from Trenton High School came in Class 2, with two members of the regular-season undefeated KCI champion Penney Hornets named to that first-team, in pitcher Julia Kanoy and catcher Ali Trosper, along with three members of the third-place state-winning Marceline Lady Tigers, who went through Trenton (8-5) in the district semifinals on the way to state.  From Marceline, named Class 2 first-teamers are infielder Kenzie Stahl and outfielders Abbey Kussman and Ciarrah Bell.

Class 2 season-team selections included Putnam County catcher Carsen Sporleder, Marceline infielder Baylee Jobson, Penney outfielder Jaide Herrera, and Milan at-large selection Cady Pauley.

In addition to Lacie Lewis’ selection to the Class 1 first-team, two other Princeton Lady Tigers were named all-state second team picks, in sophomore pitcher Lauren Krohn and senior infielder Lindsey Batson.  Four members of the 2018 Class 1 state champion and 2019 third-place winning Maysville Lady Wolverines earned first-team status, in pitcher Sadie Smith, catcher Ashley Brown, outfielder Rylie Boyer, and infielder Ashton Willis.
