Patriots to don popular “Pat Patriot” style throwbacks in 2023

NFL

The New England Patriots will once again wear their red “Pat Patriot” throwback uniforms for two games during the 2023 NFL season. These throwback uniforms, modeled after the ones worn by the team from 1984 to 1992, were reintroduced last season and will be making a comeback for two specific contests.

In Week 2, the Patriots will don their red throwback uniforms for an AFC East divisional matchup against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday Night Football. This game holds historical significance, as the Dolphins have a long-standing rivalry with the Patriots, making it a fiercely contested game even with the retro uniforms.

It will be the first time in many years that the Patriots wear their red throwbacks against the Dolphins, with the last occasion being in the early 1990s. Notably, the Patriots were wearing their red throwback uniforms when they defeated the Dolphins in the 1985 AFC Championship, a game that marked the franchise’s first appearance in the Super Bowl.

In Week 13, the Patriots will once again wear their throwback uniforms, this time facing off against the Los Angeles Chargers. This matchup will evoke memories of the early AFL battles in the 1960s when both franchises were in their infancy. The Patriots have had recent success against the Chargers, winning their previous two encounters in 2020 and 2021, extending a seven-game winning streak against them since 2008.

The now-Los-Angeles Chargers, coming off a playoff appearance in 2022, will aim to break the streak and improve their standing during the final push for the playoffs in the 2023 regular season.
