West Virginia departures could mean K-State additions in transfer shuffle

NCAA

Kansas State head coach Jerome Tang is targeting Joe Toussaint and Mohamed Wague, former college teammates who played against the Wildcats last season as rivals at West Virginia. Both players have entered the NCAA transfer portal following Bob Huggins’ resignation as the Mountaineers’ head coach. Toussaint and Wague are considering their options and plan to visit Kansas State later in the week.

Adding Toussaint would be a valuable addition for the Wildcats, as Tang has been seeking a veteran guard who can score from the transfer portal. The 6-foot, 190-pound senior averaged 9.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in 34 games last season. He has been a consistent contributor throughout his college career, having played nearly 100 games during his first three seasons at Iowa. With his late addition to the transfer portal, Toussaint is among the top remaining available players. However, K-State faces strong competition for his services, with Toussaint also planning visits to Texas Tech and Alabama, as well as participating in Zoom calls with Gonzaga and Miami. He is also considering a return to West Virginia with the appointment of interim coach Josh Eilert.

Wague, a 6-foot-10 sophomore, is also exploring his options after averaging 4.1 points and 3.1 rebounds last season at West Virginia. Tang is interested in Wague’s size and athleticism, seeing him as a valuable addition to the Kansas State frontcourt. Wague plans to visit DePaul before taking a recruiting trip to K-State.

Both Toussaint and Wague were expected to have significant roles at West Virginia next season, but now there is a possibility that they may join another Big 12 team, Kansas State, during the summer transfer period.
