Wildcats control line of scrimmage, roll to GRC win at Trenton 43-6

High School Football Local Sports

The Milan Wildcats showed dominance from big and physical offensive and defensive lines, using the control of the trenches to beat Trenton on Friday night, 43-6 at C.F. Russell Stadium.

Milan’s backfield tandem of Deric Doporto and Dominic Dabney combined for 21 carries, 336 yards, and five touchdowns on the ground for the 4th ranked Wildcats, now 5-0 overall and, at 3-0 in Grand River Conference action, tied with South Harrison for first place in the standings.  Trenton, coming off a two-week quarantine due to COVID-19, drops to 0-3 overall, and 0-1 in GRC play.

In addition to the three rushing touchdowns by Dabney, and the two by Doporto, Milan, up 30-0 midway through the third quarter, got a 66 yard touchdown strike from senior quarterback Mallan Cole to wide receiver Jeremy Bennett.

Here is victorious coach John Dabney:

For the third consecutive game, the Trenton rushing attack struggled to move the football, with Milan’s defensive line tandem of Axel Pagan and Riley Shoemaker routinely spending time in the Bulldog backfield.   The Bulldogs first points of the 2020 season came on the final play of the night, on a 10 yard scoring scamper around the left side of the offensive line by sophomore quarterback Coleman Griffin.  Fullback Sam Gibson had 13 carries for the Bulldogs, able to grind out 42 yards to pace the offense.

Trenton will travel to Polo to play the Panthers this Friday night at 7 o’clock on Hot Country Z 101.7 (KGOZ on Tune-In Radio and KTTNSports.com).  Milan returns home to put its unbeaten mark on the line against the Gallatin Bulldogs this week, with kickoff at 7 o’clock on Friday night from Cal Hubbard Field.

On KTTN FM 92.3, the Princeton Tigers scored early and often to build a big first-half lead, and, able to put things into cruise control in the second half, PHS beat visiting Putnam County 38-6.  Here is Tiger coach Nathan Powell:

For the third consecutive week, the South Harrison Bulldogs shutout a GRC opponent, taking down the visiting Polo Panthers, 38-0, improving the ‘Dogs to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play.  Here is victorious coach Chris Schoning:
