With Lathrop roadblock cleared, Trenton prepares for Holden trip, one win shy of Final Four berth

Two teams with 25 wins each will battle in Holden on Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock, with the Grand River Conference champion Trenton Lady Bulldogs (25-2) playing the Holden Lady Eagles (25-6) in the Class 2 quarterfinals, with Trenton looking to reach the “Final Four” for the first time since finishing second in the state in 2009.

On Wednesday night, Trenton scored five runs in the first two innings against Lathrop all-state right-hander Brooke Huitt, with Ainsley Tolson firing a three-hit shutout in a 5-0 victory over a Mules team that had ended Trenton’s season in the quarterfinal round in 2016.  Trenton took the lead early, with senior Taylor Richman launching a two-run double into right field with the bases loaded in the first inning:

Senior Catcher Salem Croy admitted that getting by playoff games against nemesis teams in Penney and Lathrop have the Lady Bulldogs “flying high” and brimming with positive vibes:
