“Battle of Bulldogs” highlights Gallatin Tournament semifinals tonight

Two long-time rivals, now both as members of the Grand River Conference, will play tonight (Friday night) at Gallatin High School, as the host Bulldogs, seeded third in the Gallatin Tournament, entertain the #2 seeded Trenton Bulldogs.  The boys game will be the final contest of the night from GHS, scheduled for an 8:15 tip on Hot Country Z 101.7, as Tom Johnson brings you the play-by-play.

In the first boys semifinal of the night, Eric Lewis’ Class 1 juggernaut from Winston High School looks to take another step toward a Gallatin Tourney title, playing the Polo Panthers at 5:45.

The first girls semifinal will feature the unbeaten powerhouse Trenton girls taking on Braymer at 4:30 on Hot Country Z 101.7, with the Gallatin Lady Bulldogs battling Hardin-Central at 7 o’clock tonight.

On Thursday night, in consolation semifinal round action, the Winston girls beat Gilman City 49-30, the Polo Lady Panthers claimed a 38-25 win over Maysville, the Maysville boys downed Gilman City 67-45, while the Braymer boys were a 53-35 victor over Hardin-Central.

At the Savannah Tournament on Thursday night, Jordan Hibner led three Chillicothe Lady Hornets in double figures with 16 points, leading CHS to a semifinal upset of #2 seed Staley 51-34.  The win sends the Lady Hornets to Saturday night’s title bout with William Christman, a 43-36 semifinal winner over top-seeded Smithville.  The Chillicothe boys, in consolation semifinal action, will take on Smithville at 5:30 on Friday night.

In the semifinals of the Northwestern Tournament on Friday night, both Linn County and both Meadville teams will be on the floor.  At 4:30, the Meadville Lady Eagles play Hale, with the Linn County Lady Mustangs playing #1 seed Higbee at 7 o’clock.  The Northwestern boys take on Meadville at 5:45, with the unbeaten Linn County boys putting a 2-0 mark on the line against Brunswick at 8:15.

Consolation semifinal scores from Mendon, on Thursday night, were:  Northwestern girls 81, Keytesville 37; Brunswick girls 47, Bucklin-Macon County 39; Hale boys 72, Bucklin-Macon County 34; Keytesville boys 47, Higbee 24

 

The Green City girls and boys will play in semifinal action on Friday night at the Novinger Tournament, with the Lady Gophers playing Atlanta at 6:40, followed by the Gopher boys against Novinger at 8 o’clock.  The Grundy R-5 girls play Novinger in consolation round action on Friday at 4, with the Grundy boys in consolation semifinal play against Atlanta at 5:20

The Trenton JV boys beat Putnam County on Thursday night, 42-39, as the Bulldogs evened their record at 1-1.  Brycin Loyd and Camden Leeper led Trenton with 11 points each.
