“Bulldog Blowout” – Trenton girls open postseason with 60 point win

High School Basketball

The Trenton Lady Bulldogs beat South Harrison for the third time this season, earning their 25th victory of the season, with a 77-17 victory on Monday night, in the quarterfinals of the Class 3, District 16 tournament at Penney High School in Hamilton.

In a balanced scoring effort, junior Sidney Lynch paced THS with 17 points, with fellow junior Mykah Hurley adding 13.  Freshman forward Maci Moore added 12 points for the Lady Bulldogs, now 25-1 on the season and ranked #3 in the latest MBCA Class 3 state poll.

The win sends Trenton into the District 16 semifinals, and a third meeting with East Buchanan, Thursday night at 7:30.  Trenton opened the 2017-2018 season with a victory over East Buchanan in Gower two days before Thanksgiving, then beat the Lady ‘Dawgs in a hotly contested Hamilton Tournament semifinal in late January.  East Buchanan earned its spot opposite Trenton with a 50-33 win over KCI Conference rival Lathrop on Monday night.

The Maryville Lady Spoofhounds, led by former Trenton Head Coach Quentin Albrecht, were able to avoid the upset bug, as two late free-throws by freshman phenom Serena Sundell gave the Lady ‘Hounds a 32-30 win over #6 seed Brookfield.  Maryville will play the #2 seed and host Penney Lady Hornets in the semifinals on Thursday night at 6 o’clock, with the Lady Hornets hammering Bishop LeBlond in a Monday night quarterfinal test, 63-29.

The boys quarterfinals, originally scheduled for Tuesday night in Hamilton, have been postponed by 24 hours, with the boy’s games now slated to be played on Wednesday night, as the host Hornets take on South Harrison at 4:30, the top-seeds from Maryville battle Brookfield at 6, the Trenton Bulldogs (in a game to be heard on Hot Country Z 101.7) taking on Bishop LeBlond at 7:30, with the East Buchanan Bulldogs playing the Lathrop Mules at 9 o’clock.
