Bulldog netters double up Chillicothe, Shields wins career match #50

The Trenton Bulldogs beat the Chillicothe Hornets in varsity tennis action on Tuesday afternoon 6-3, improving in duals to a perfect 6-0 this spring.  In the most competitive match of the night, the Bulldog #1 doubles team of Nick Shields and Creed Houghton went to a tie-break with Tyler Maasdam and Noah Crowe of the Hornets, taking the tiebreaker 8-6, and the match 9-8.  Earlier in the evening, Shields, playing at #1 singles, won his 50th career match, defeating Maasdam 8-1.

At #2 singles, Trenton’s Gabe Swann shutout Crowe 8-love.  At #3 singles, Trenton’s Houghton beat Chillicothe’s Brendon Nelson 8-5, with Jeremy Elliott of the Bulldogs claiming an 8-2 win over Seth Batye.

Chillicothe singles victories came from Colten Johnson, over Isaac Harris at #5 singles 8-5, and, at #6 singles, Gavin Sampsel over Weston Otto 8-2.

In the #2 doubles match, Swann and Elliott of Trenton downed Nelson and Johnson of Chillicothe 8-3, with Chillicothe’s #3 doubles entry of Batye and Sampsel doubling up Trenton’s Harris and Villacampa 8-4.

Trenton won 4 junior varsity matches to Chillicothe’s 2, with Riley Walker of THS winning 6-2 and 6-4 in singles play.  In doubles, the Trenton team of Villacampa and Brown won 6-2, with Raymo and Soptic 6-love.  Chillicothe JV doubles wins came from Black and Corbin 6-2, and Maasdam and Corbin 6-love.
