Bulldogs edge Tigers in competitive net dual

Tennis

The Trenton Bulldogs claimed five victories to Kirksville’s four, moving to 7-0 on the boy’s tennis season with the team’s most competitive victory to date, coming Monday afternoon from the THS Courts.

The advantage tipped Trenton’s way early in singles play, with the host Bulldogs sweeping the #1 through #4 matches, all in fairly decisive fashion.  In the only ‘sweep’ of the night, Trenton’s #2 entry, Gabe Swann, beat Charles Fraser 8-love.  At #1 singles, Nick Shields downed Bennett Hoshaw, with Creed Houghton (#3 singles) defeating Noah Walker, and Jeremy Elliott (#4 singles) downing Jacob Doman, with those three matches all by identical 8-3 finals.

Kirksville’s Alec Hazen, at #5 singles, took an 8-5 win over Isaac Harris, with the #6 singles match going to Bryce Robison of the Tigers, 8-5 over West Otto of THS.

In doubles play, needing one victory to clinch the team win, Trenton’s #2 team of Swann and Elliott came through with an 8-1 triumph over Walker and Doman.  That win, as it turned out, was very necessary for the Bulldogs team victory hopes, with Kirksville’s Hoshaw and Fraser winning the #1 dual over Shields and Houghton 8-5, while Hazen and Robison combined for a 8-4 win, at #3 doubles, over Jonin Villacampa and Isaac Harris of Trenton.  With Trenton now at 7-0, Kirksville’s record slipped to 6-4.

In JV play, Trenton’s Riley Walker, in singles action, took a 6-2 win over C.J. Easley, with Riley Raymo of THS a 7-5 winner over Easley.  Kirksville swept all four doubles matches played against host Trenton.
