The Gilman City Hawks took their first doubleheader sweep of the basketball season on Tuesday night, winning girls and boys contests played at Union Star High School.

The Ladyhawks claimed the opener, 53-21, as senior guard Hailey Burrows scored a game-high 28 points for Gilman City.  Freshman Emily Brown added 10 and senior Haize Wilson nine, with junior Megan Cottrell adding six points.

The Gilman girls started relatively slow, leading only 5-2 after one quarter, before pulling away from Union Star with a 34-11 combined advantage over the middle two quarters.

The Hawk boys got themselves back into the win column with a 62-32 win at Union Star.  Gilman City jumped to a 20-6 win after the first quarter, in winning for the first time since opening night against Osborn.  Junior Cornelius Perry had 16 points, senior Skylar Reynolds 14, and junior Mitch Sievering 13 points for the Hawks.

Gilman City Head Coach Adam Clark has announced that the Hawks HDC Conference home games with Winston, due to this Friday’s (December 16th) icy weather forecast, have been moved.  The Hawks will host the Redbirds on Thursday night, JANUARY 19TH in a 6 o’clock doubleheader.

Note – an earlier version of this story had the reschedule date for Winston at Gilman City as Thursday, December 15th.  This is incorrect.  The correct reschedule date is 1/19/17
