The Chillicothe Lady Hornets used balanced scoring, while keeping a rebuilding Bishop LeBlond team in check with stout defense, as Darren Smith’s squad evened its record at 1-1 on Monday night, with a 48-18 victory in the first night of play at the Savannah Tournament.

Center Kennedie Kieffer led the Lady Hornets with 10 points, with Hunter Keithley adding 9, Jordan Hibner 9, and Harlie Jones eight points.  Coming off a five-point loss a week ago to the Penney Lady Hornets, Chillicothe will look to move above .500, and move into the championship game of the Savannah Tournament, playing Savannah on Thursday night at 8:30.  Juliann Smith had six points with Libby Weddle adding five for the Golden Eagles.

The Kansas City Staley girls walloped the St. Joseph Central junior varsity in the other girls game played on Monday night at Savannah, 52-10.

The Platte County boys, behind a game-high 43 points from guard Deiondre Ragsdale, blitzed Savannah, winning 89-55.  The LeBlond boys, behind 20 points from Jack Harvey, beat in-city rival Benton 59-54.  Malique Bennett came off the bench for Gary Belcher’s squad, leading the Cardinals with 15 points.

Four more games are on the docket for Tuesday at the Savannah High School gymnasium, with the Chillicothe boys challenging Benton at 4 o’clock, followed by the Maryville girls against the Central JV at 5:30.  At 7, the Savannah boys take on rival Maryville, with the Savannah girls finishing the night against LeBlond at 8:30.
