Chillicothe’s Trout and Mathew advance to state links tournament

The Bishop LeBlond Golden Eagles won the Class 3, District 4 golf championship on Monday afternoon at the Shirkey Golf Course in Richmond, with a team score of 301 advancing the St. Joseph school to the state tournament next week in New Bloomfield.  Joining LeBlond will be the runner-up from Barstow High School in Kansas City, after a score of 316.

Midland Empire Conference rivals Maryville and Chillicothe just missed out on sending their teams to state, with the Spoofhounds finishing third at 347, and the Hornets tying Marshall for fourth place at 347.  The Cameron Dragons finished a distant 14th with a score of 404.

Among the players advancing to the state tournament (May 15th and 16th) are Chillicothe’s Jackson Trout, after he tied for 4th place with an 18-hole score of 76.  Trout’s teammate, James Mathew, is all state bound, finishing in a 16th place tie at 84.  Cameron’s top golfer, Brady Stice, advanced with a 10th place finish at 79.  

Those moving onto state from District 4 are the entire teams from LeBlond and Barstow, in addition to individual finishers in the Top 20.   Winning the individual district title was LeBlond’s Timothy Johnston with a round of 1-over par 72.  LeBlond’s Patrick Johnston was second at 73.

From Class 3, District 3 at Cassville, Eldon won the team title at 309, with Logan-Rogersville runner-up with 315.  Monett’s Jaxon Bailey tied Eldon’s Teagen Hull for the individual title at even par 72.

For District 2 at Hartsburg, Blair Oaks won the team title at 319, followed by Hallsville’s 325.  Garrett McIntosh of Tolton Catholic won the individual title at 1-over par 73.

For District 1 down in Ste. Genevieve, St. James won the team title at 327, two strokes better than runner-up Dexter.  St. James High School’s Jackson Marcee shot 2-over par 74 to take the individual title.

Five state tournaments will be contested across the state on Monday, May 15th and Tuesday, May 16th, with Class 1 in Columbia, Class 2 headed for Springfield, Class 3 bound for New Bloomfield, Class 4 in Sedalia, and Class 5 traveling to Bolivar.
