The Class 1, District 6 golf championships were held on Tuesday in LaPlata, with Kirksville and Gallatin finishing in the top two spots, advancing their teams to the Section 3 tournament next week. Chillicothe had five golfers finish in the top 25 to advance the entire Hornet squad to sectionals, while Trenton had Werthen Gass and Maci Henson advance to the Section 3 tournament, to be hosted by Chillicothe.
Kirksville’s winning team score was 381, followed by Gallatin’s 390. Chillicothe was third (403), followed by Brookfield, Marceline, Putnam County, LaPlata, Schuyler County, and Braymer.
Samantha Cornelius of Penney High School (Hamilton) was the individual District 6 champion, with a score of nine-over par 80. Abigail Boyer of Kirksville was second at 82, followed by Chillicothe’s Hallie Jones at 86 and Trenton High School’s Werthen Gass, finishing 4th at 87. Brookfield’s top score, a 89 from Laken Sattman, was good for fifth place.
