Gallatin in position for Class 1 golf repeat, with Simmons second at state golf

The Gallatin Bulldogs, with a team score of 330, have a ten stroke lead over second-place Lincoln, after one day of competition at the Class 1 boy’s golf state championship tournament in Bolivar.

Gallatin, looking to repeat as Class 1 state champion, was paced by Jett Simmons, with an 18-hole score of 75 putting him in second place overall, just one stroke behind the leader, Peyton Bell of Bloomfield High School, who shot a 74.  Logan Smith of LaPlata shot 76 for third place.  

Last week, in Class 1, Section 4 at the Green Hills Course in Chillicothe, Gallatin was beaten by Marceline.  One week later, the Bulldogs turned the tables on the Tigers, although at 341, Marceline is just 11 strokes behind the Bulldogs, in third place overall.  

Jeffrey Hamilton of Marceline shot 80, good for a 13th place tie.  Gallatin’s Wyatt Bird, at 82, is in 18th place.  Two golfers from Marceline are part of a four-way tie for 29th place, with Jordan Elam and Makenzie Fessler joined by Stanberry’s Mitchell Carroll and Kodi Shockey of Lutie at 85.

Gallatin’s Logan Burns shot 86 on Monday and Gabe Cole of the Bulldogs finished at 87.  Marceline’s Andrew Edgar sits at 91, with King City’s Davis Washburn at 91, Norborne’s Lee Cowsert at 92, Stanberry’s Cole Craig at 93, Marceline’s Colby Sims at 97, and Worth County’s Seth Brown and Ryan McClellan both at 99.

St. Francis Borgia leads Class 3 after the first day of action, at 303, with Priory second at 305 and Nevada third at 307.  Brayden Watts of Southern Boone has the lead in Class 3 at 69.  Hayden Montgomery of Chillicothe shot 93.

In Class 4, Glendale (300) leads Rockhurst by five shots, with Chaminade in third place at 306.  Matt Hoemann of Washington, Alexander Locke of Glendale, and John Moran of Eureka are in a three-way tie for the individual lead in Class 4, all at 72.
