Croy earns state berth; Class 1 champion Gallatin, South Harrison advance

The Bishop LeBlond Golden Eagles, with a team score of 301, have won the Class 2, Section 4 golf tournament, played Monday at the Green Hills Golf Course in Chillicothe.  South Harrison, with a second place total of 343, will send its entire team to next week’s Class 2 state event, along with LeBlond.

Hank Lierz of LeBlond was the Section 4 champion with a score of 5-under par 67, followed by teammate Brooks Jungbluth at 70.  The top area score came from Hamilton’s Ethan Green, in fourth place with a mark of 74.  Trenton senior Lathan Croy will advance to state, with a 7-over par score of 79 earning Croy a 6th place tie with Richard Bray of Barstow.

In an interview with UClick-TV, Croy admitted that he could have shot better than 79, and he is hoping to do just that at state in six days:

The Gallatin Bulldogs are the champions of Class 1, Section 4, sending the entire squad from the Grand River Conference champions to next week’s state meet, along with runner-up Mid-Buchanan.  Gallatin’s winning score was 328, with the Mid-Buchanan Dragons at 343.

Gallatin senior Jett Simmons won medalist honors on Monday at 1-over par, followed by GHS teammate Gabriel Cole at 5-over.  Other state tournament clinching scores, from Class 1, Section 4, were:
