East Buchanan squads win quarterfinal tests at Hamilton Tournament

The East Buchanan High School girls and boys basketball teams took decisive victories on Tuesday night, moving into Thursday’s semifinals at the Hamilton Basketball Tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs beat the KCI rival Lathrop Lady Mules by a final score of 53-26, moving East Buchanan’s girls into a semifinal test with the top-seeded Trenton Lady Bulldogs, Thursday afternoon at 4:30 on Hot Country Z 101.7.  Madison McCreary had 20 points and Lilly Schilling 18 for East Buchanan in last night’s win.  The game with Trenton will a rematch of the season opener, won by Trenton on two nights before Thanksgiving in Gower.

The Braymer Lady Bobcats, fueled by 16 points from Jasmine Taylor and 11 from Kelsey Stone, sprung an upset of the 3rd-seeded Gallatin Lady Bulldogs, 49-46.  Karley Salmon had 17 points and Kelsey Maxwell 11 for GHS.  The win advances Braymer into a girls semifinal with the host Penney Lady Hornets, Thursday night at 7:30.

On the boys side of the bracket, the East Buchanan Bulldogs had a “clock-runner” against Braymer, with 29 points from Ethan Gilmore leading the Gower squad to a 65-27 win.  East Buchanan will play Lathrop in a 6 o’clock boys semifinal on Thursday night.

The Penney boys got 17 points from both Cale Whitt and LaTroy Harper, and 10 points each from Ryan Cook and Braden Potts, in a 71-56 win over rival Gallatin.  Jett Simmons, in the loss, led Gallatin with 24 points.  Colin Beck had 13 and Aiden Adkison 10 points.  Hamilton will play Trenton in the semifinal round, Thursday night at 9 o’clock on Hot Country Z 101.7.

In tonight’s (Wednesday night’s) consolation semifinals, the Richmond girls duel with Gallatin at 4:30, followed by the Braymer boys against South Harrison at 6.  At 7:30, the South Harrison Lady Bulldogs duel with Lathrop, with the Gallatin Bulldog boys finishing the night with a matchup with Richmond at 9 o’clock.

The championship semifinals, set for Thursday, will feature the Trenton Bulldogs in the early game and the late game, both to be broadcast on Hot Country Z 101.7.  At 4:30, in an “All Bulldog Battle”, it’s the Trenton girls against East Buchanan, followed by the East Buchanan boys against Lathrop at 6:00.  The Penney girls host Braymer at 7:30, while the Trenton boys, on Hot Country Z 101.7, battle the Penney Hornets at 9 o’clock.
