Men's Basketball

The North Central Missouri College Pirates, on a three-point shot by Major Finley with 8.2 seconds remaining in the second half, downed the visiting Johnson County Community College Cavaliers on Wednesday night, 85-83.

The victory improves the Pirates record to 6-3, and helps North Central avoid their first losing “streak” of the season, after suffering a home loss on Saturday afternoon against John Wood.

The victory is the second of the season in as many tries against Johnson County for the Pirates, who claimed a 71-70 win in the season opener at Overland Park on the first night of November.

After the win, it was a pleased Pirate Head Coach in Jeremy Esry, who spoke with Sports Director Tom Johnson:

The Pirates were paced in the Ketcham Community Center victory by freshman forward Jalen Gant with 17 points.  Finley had 14, Demetrius Houston 13, and Joshuah Goss 10 points, including a pair of three-point shots late in the contest.

Johnson County, now 8-4, had 16 points from David Turner, 14 for Nick Larkin, 12 points from Anthony Lupardus, and 11 points each from Oliver Edwards and Marquawn Wilson.

Wednesday night’s game was broadcast on KGOZ-TV:
