Gallatin continues GRC dominance, taking wrestling championship

The Gallatin Bulldogs ran away with the Grand River Conference wrestling tournament on Saturday at Gallatin High School, amassing 161 points, more than double the 68 point total of runner-up Trenton.

Third place Stanberry finished with 63.5 points, followed by Maysville at 58.5, Albany and Polo at 46 each, South Harrison 44.5, and North Andrew 42.5.

Gallatin had wrestlers finish first in eight of the 14 weight classes, with Andon Allen at 106, Ross Critten at 120, Ayden Wayne at 126, Jacob Maize at 145 pounds, Owen Schweizer at 152, Tom Crouse at 160, Drayton Harris at 170, and Graydee Rains at 220 pounds.

The champions in the other weight classes were Dawson Fansher of North Andrew at 113, Wyatt Segar of Polo at 132, Drake Eychaner of North Andrew at 138, Trent Strong of Maysville at 182, Cole Gripka of Maysville at 195 pounds, and Justin Dye of Albany at heavyweight.

Trenton had four wrestlers finish second, with Kaden Owen dropping the title match to Gallatin’s Jacob Maize at 145 pounds, Mark Trump falling to Gallatin’s Drayton Harrison at 170, Caleb Johnson losing to Trent Strong of Maysville in the 182 title bout, while Jadan Whitney, the top ranked wrestler in the state (MissouriWrestling.com) at 195 pounds, was upset in the final by Cole Gripka of Maysville.

Owen had Trenton’s best record of the day at 4-1.  Trump was 3-1.  Johnson and Whitney each had a 1-1 mark for the Bulldogs.

Brice Gibler finished third for THS with a 2-2 record at 126 pounds.

Trenton entered just eight wrestlers in Saturday’s Grand River Conference Tournament.
